3 hours remain

Here we are, at a point that has barely seemed imaginable at times: the bitter end.

Only 3 stints remain until we end our attempt, having covered more than 3,600km – adding over 575km to the old mark. It falls now upon Mike Benyon, Tim Rogers and Tom Trout to bring the team home at the end of their extraordinary effort.

The photo is of team members of both teams sleeping, having stayed the night in the cold in solidarity.

World Record #3 is ours!

Ed on the ergoYesterday, the Men’s Team cruised through the distance of the old world record leading into this morning and breaking the time duration of the old record as well.

Typical of the Men’s Team, they simply continued erging, efficient, organised – utterly professional and committed to the target of setting a new world record to be proud of.

Throughout this, they have risen above people’s wildest expectations – ending up beating the previous world record of 3,027km in 240 hours by nearly 300km! They continue rowing now, moving away with every single stroke – relentlessly setting new heights and new standards for any challenger out there to test themselves against.

Updating Again

Many apologies for the absence of recent updates, the real world called and we had to respond. In the interim, the World Record attempt has been continuing – update coming in minutes!

World Record Holders! Again!

The women’s team – have broken their second world record! Longest Continual Row world record is now 2,000,026m in 176 hours!

Full story to follow.

Women’s finish line in sight

We predict that our Women’s Longest Continual Row World Record bid will come to an end tonight at around 6:15pm. We will set a new world record, in excess of 2,000,000m – a huge achievement by the team. Check back closer to the time for a flurry of photos and updates!

The men’s team are now within 700km of the world record, and about 14 hours ahead of schedule. Massive performnces have been seen from the whole team – our Beginner 4 of Mike Benyon, Rhys Paul, Nicky White and Will Stafford lead the way.

Nicky White mashes current team distance record

It is tough at the top of the men’s team. The last 3 days have brought 3 new leaders – Rhys Paul the early leader dominating until yesterday with 14977m, then Tim Rogers taking a narrow lead on 15020m.

This morning, our Men’s Captain, Nicky White, changed the landscape altogether, pulling a massive 15446m! This is a huge new personal and team best to set during the middle of such an epic endurance race.

Will Stafford is now fighting fire with fire, launching a challenge for the crown.

Moving away, UWRC style

Record number 1 broken, 20 rowers enthused, 2,200km rowed so far – however you look at it, today started as a great day. Many hours later, as the temperature once again plummets here in Bell Square, we safely say that it has ended a great day too.

Many times, when there has been a great achievement, such as breaking a world record, there can be a real low once the euphoria subsides. When you break a world record, and know that you have to row the same distance again then some loss of enthusiasm would be understandable. Our women’s team has done anything but this, each member of the team driving onwards towards the end goal – setting the world record for the longest continual row.

New World Record Holders – Record 1!

At 26 minutes and 24 seconds past 11 this evening, the University of Worcester Rowing Club’s Women’s Team set a new World Record for the Million Metres Row.

The team of Fay Sheppard, Sophie Clarke-Hackston, Chloe Murdoch, Clare Broady, Sam Twamley, Hannah Clift, Isy Whitehead, Jossie Rose, Yuping Yu and Amy Dobbins took 86 hours, 16 minutes and 24 seconds to cover the million metres.

On behalf of the club, I’d love to say that we are hugely proud of all of them, and delighted that we were able to do this in support of such a great cause.

Newsflash: Tim Rogers number 1!

Tim Rogers has just taken the race to a new level, with a massive pb hour on the ergo, singlehandedly taking 2.5km out of the world record in the process.

The game is now on amongst ourselves, bring on the record.

Rhys Paul

Rhys Paul deserves special mention for currently holding each top position from 1st to 7th in the longest distance pulled so far.

Amazing work, bravo!
